About TextLevel
TextLevel is a free tool that estimates the CEFR reading level (A1–C2) and readability of any text. Paste in an article, email, or document, and get an instant breakdown of how difficult it is to read , along with practical tips to simplify it.
It's built for teachers checking whether reading material suits their students, writers who want their content to reach a wider audience, and language learners who want to know if a text is within their level.
Why we built it
Readability tools tend to be either too simplistic (a single number with no context) or locked behind paywalls. TextLevel aims to give a clear, actionable picture , CEFR level, readability score, and concrete suggestions , for free, with no account required.
How it works
TextLevel analyzes sentence length, word complexity, and syllable structure to estimate readability. For several languages, it uses formulas specifically adapted for that language rather than relying on English-only metrics. Where a language doesn't yet have a dedicated formula, results are marked as approximate.
Who's behind it
TextLevel is built and maintained by TAVK Media, a media development studio based in the Netherlands.
